What is Project Gutenberg?

Project Gutenberg is a volunteer effort to digitize and archive cultural works.

So that creation and distribution of e-books can be encouraged.

This is the oldest digital library.

Most of the items in its collection are public domain works (things not protected by copyright).

Which can be freely copied, distributed, displayed and performed.
